BC SPCA offers promotion to help support their emergency shelters

The BC SPCA is cutting 50% off their adoption fees.

This is to free up space and allow their shelters to be used for free emergency boarding for pets affected by the fires.

There are 36 animal shelters across the province that are operated by the BC SPCA, and Lorie Chortyk, General Manager of Communications for the BC SPCA said they’re getting close to capacity.

“We have in Kamloops right now about 68 animals that have come in the last couple of days,” said Chortyk.

“We wanted to have a half-price adoption fee promotion to help throughout the province. Adopt out some of the homeless animals in our care, so that we can transfer animals from our SPCA shelters in the interior and the north, down to the lower mainland and on to Vancouver Island, and clear up space in the shelters where the wildfires are threatening so that we can really make sure we are there for the people who desperately need temporary shelter for their pets,” she added.

Chortyk said the PG SPCA is one of the shelters that has needed to provide emergency boarding in previous years.

The promotion runs from July 20-30, and people can see the pets available for adoption on their website.
