Olympics

It’s the sixth day of the Tokyo Olympics. Canada sits with 10 medals currently.

This includes two gold, five bronze, and three silver medals.

Earlier today, Canadian judoka Shady El-Nahas has finished off the podium after losing the bronze-medal match in the men’s 100-kilogram division.

The 23-year-old from Mississauga, Ontario lost to Jorge Fonseca of Portugal.

In addition, the Canadian women’s team fell in Rugby Sevens this morning to Fiji by a 26-12 score.

Kayla Moleschi of Williams Lake had five points in defeat for Canada who drop to 1-1.

Canada is back in action tomorrow (Friday) against France.

Bridget Carleton led the Canadian women’s basketball team (1-0) with 19 points enroute to a 74-53 victory over South Korea.

Kayla Moleschi of Williams Lake and her Canadian teammates are off to a flying start in the women’s rugby sevens after a 33-0 victory over Brazil.

Canada looks to improve to 2-0 with its next match against Fiji.

The Canadian women’s soccer team, coming off a 1-1 tie against Great Britain, will play Brazil in the quarterfinals Friday at 1 a.m. PT.

Canada has a team of 371 athletes (225 women and 146 men) in Tokyo. Among the female athletes: Regan Yee of Hazelton who will compete in track in the 3000 Metre Steeplechase and Kayla Moleschi of Williams Lake who is part of the women’s rugby team.

The Olympics run through to August 8th.

NHL

Day one of Free Agent Frenzy is in the books.

Among the major signings is Dougie Hamilton heading to the New Jersey Devils on a 7-year, $63 million dollar deal.

Elsewhere, Zach Hyman is heading to the Alberta Capital after inking an 8-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers.

The Seattle Kraken made a big splash signing goaltender Phillipp Grubauer, forward Jayden Schwartz and Alexander Wennberg to long-term contracts.

Brayden Point is staying put with the Tampa Bay Lightning, inking an 8-year, $76-million dollar extension.

Earlier today (Thursday), the St. Louis Blues signed forward Brandon Saad to a five-year $22.5 million dollar contract.

The Toronto Blue Jays split a doubleheader at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox.

Red Sox 4 Blue Jays 1

The Jays (50-48) wrap up their road trip with another game against Boston (63-40) before returning to Toronto for lengthy home stand starting on Friday.

NFL

The New York Jets signed rookie quarterback Zach Wilson to his entry-level contract.

It is a four-year deal with $35.15 million dollars.

Wilson was drafted by the Jets’ 2nd overall out of BYU during’s April’s draft.
