WHL

Former PG Cougars head coach Mark Holick is joining the Kamloops Blazers as an associate.

He coached the Cougars from 2013-16 before being let go after the team was ousted by the Seattle Thunderbirds in the WHL Playoffs.

Holick joins the Blazers after spending the last three seasons coaching the Yale Hockey Academy’s U18 Prep team.

MLB

George Springer homered twice as the Toronto Blue Jays smashed the Los Angeles Angels by an 11-2 score.

Teoscar Hernandez also drove in 4 RBI’s while pitcher Alex Mannoah fanned 11 LA batters.

Toronto (62-51) continues its series against the Angels (57-58) tonight at 6:35 Pacific Time.

Minor League Baseball

Jared Young of Prince George recorded one hit and struck out three times in his first full game as a member of the Iowa Cubs during a 12-7 win against the Omaha Storm Chasers.

Iowa is the AAA affiliate of the MLB’s Chicago Cubs.

The six-game series continues tonight in Omaha.

NHL

The Florida Panthers signed newly acquired forward Sam Reinhart to a three-year contract.

Reinhart was a restricted free agent, and acquired by the Panthers in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres last month.

CFL

The BC Lions are back in action tonight against the Calgary Stampeders.

Both teams are 0-1 to begin the season.

The Lions are expected to start Canadian rookie quarterback Nathan Rourke as Mike Reilly is still nursing an arm injury.
