Review panel issues Site C report

A review panel has issued its report on the Site C dam project.

It says the $8 billion proposal would provide clear benefits to BC but also significant impacts on the environment and Aboriginal rights.

The panel doesn’t say whether the project should go ahead or not – rather it makes 50 recommendations if the federal and provincial governments give it the green light.

The panel says BC Hydro has not demonstrated the need to build the project by 2024 and that if governments want to proceed, they should consult with the BC Utilities Commission to look at costs and revenue requirements.

A final decision is not expected for six months.
