Starting on Monday, the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation and Tim Hortons are joining forces for the annual Smile Cookie Campaign.

100% of the proceeds from the week-long initiative will support the purchase of a new MRI Patient Table at UHNBC.

Spirit of the North CEO, Judy Neiser spoke with MyPGNow.com.

“Whenever we can make the north more resilient and stronger it is obviously a win-win. Tim Hortons is such a great community partner and their passion for pediatrics definitely shines through.”

Last year, 100 northern families had to travel to Vancouver for a 45-minute Pediatric MRI out-patient procedure.

Neiser also explained why getting a second pediatric MRI Patient Table is important.

“Actually, because of prep time rate, if you can have a second table, a patient can be prepped and you don’t lose that time. If you are waiting for the original table, to be vacated it obviously takes up time and pediatric patients take that much longer to prepare.”

Over the past 19 years, the campaign has raised over 420-thousand dollars to help improve health care outcomes in the region.

Residents can purchase Smile Cookies beginning from September 13th to 19th at local Tim Hortons locations.
