Kristen Kieta was the top Prince George runner in the 119th annual Boston Marathon. The 25 year old Kieta covered the 26 mile 385 yard course in just under three hours (2:59:03), a 14 minute improvement from her time last year. Kieta placed 113th in her division while averaging a pace of 6:50 per mile.

Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia won his second Boston Marathon in a time of 2:09:17.

Kenya’s Caroline Rotich won the women’s race in 2:24:55.

Over 37,000 runners participated.

–Canada beat Finland 3-2 today at the World Under-18 Hockey Championship in Switzerland. The Canadian team, which includes Jansen Harkins of the Prince George Cougars, finished 4-0 in round robin play. Harkins did not get a point against Finland. He has a goal and an assist in four tournament games.

Quarter-finals will be played Thursday with the semis Saturday and the medal games on Sunday.

–The WHL Conference finals open on Friday with Portland at Kelowna in the West and Calgary at Brandon in the East. All four teams won their best of seven second round series in five games.

–Despite finishing first in the regular season, the Cariboo Cougars had no players selected to the BC Major Midget League 2014-2015 All-Star Team.

The voting was conducted by league coaches. Three of the six players chosen are from the playoff champion Vancouver North East Chiefs.

–Prince George Inner City boxer Kenny Lally is back in the ring this week. Lally, a six-time national champion, will compete in the 56-kilogram division at the Cheo Aponte Cup tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Competition starts on Wednesday.
