The Cougars play two more preseason games, Friday in Maple Ridge against the Vancouver Giants and Saturday in Victoria against the Royals.

The regular season for the Cougars will begin on October 2nd when they host the Blazers. The Cougars are carrying 27 players, three goalies, nine defencemen, and 15 forwards. Eight of the players are rookies and four are 20-year-olds (one over the limit); goalie Taylor Gauthier, defenceman Majid Kaddoura plus forwards Jonny Hooker, and Connor Bowie. There are 3 PG boys on the team: defenceman Aiden Reeves and forwards Caden Brown and Fischer O’Brien.

PG Spruce Kings:

The Prince George Spruce Kings held their training camp on the weekend at the RMCA.  The Spruce Kings open their four-game preseason schedule on Friday against the Centennials in Merritt. The Spruce Kings also visit West Kelowna on September 28th and Penticton on the 29th before concluding the exhibition play on Sunday, October 3rd when they host Merritt at 3 pm.

Northern Capitals:

The Northern Capitals female midget hockey team finished with a win, a loss, and two ties at its first tournament of the season which was held in Calgary.

The UNBC men have two losses and two ties after four games while the UNBC women have four losses.  Trinity Western is 4-0 in the women’s standings and has a win and three ties after four games in the men’s division. The UNBC soccer teams will visit UBC on Friday and Saturday night before hosting UBC Okanagan on October 1st and 2nd.

 

MLB:

Toronto Blue Jays  5  Minnesota Twins  3

The Blue Jays, who have won 18 of their last 22, play seven games on the road this week starting tonight (Monday) at Tampa Bay.  The Jays hold down the second of two AL wild-card spots, one game behind the Boston Red Sox and 1 1/2 games ahead of the New York Yankees. Toronto has 13 games left, 7 on the road, and 6 at home. The (84-65) Blue Jays have four remaining against Minnesota, three against Tampa, three against the Yankees, and three against Baltimore.

Triple-A Baseball:

Jared Young of Prince George is batting .252 since getting called up to AAA with the Iowa Cubs. The 26-year-old first baseman has four homers and 15 RBI’s in 31 games.

 

NFL:

The Seahawks are 1-1. The other three teams in the NFC West, LA Rams, San Francisco, and Arizona are all 2-0.

Only seven teams are off to a 2-0 start: Denver and Las Vegas in the AFC plus San Francisco, LA Rams, Arizona, Tampa Bay, and Carolina in the NFC.

The 0-2 teams are New York Jets, Jacksonville, and Indianapolis in the AFC plus New York Giants, Atlanta, and Minnesota in the NFC.

Tonight, 0-1 Detroit visits 0-1 Green Bay to conclude the second week of the season.
