Spruce Kings turn to Cousins as new captain

A heart and soul player will be leading the Prince George Spruce Kings onto the ice this season.

Kolton Cousins was named the 21st captain in franchise history today (Tuesday) by the BCHL club.

“We have a special group of character people, including many experienced players and leaders this year, so to be named Captain of the Spruce Kings is an absolute honour,” said Cousins.

“Kolton is an extremely competitive and driven player who sets the standard and conduct for the Spruce Kings,” said Head Coach Alex Evin.

The 20-year-old is entering his 4th BCHL season and his third with the Spruce Kings after being acquired from the Cowichan Valley Capitals in September of 2019.

In the spring pod season, Cousins scored 8 goals in 20 games.

The Spruce Kings kick off the pre-season Friday as they head to Merritt to take on the Centennials.
