Carter MacAdams notched a hat-trick, including the game-winning goal and an empty-netter in the third period.

The Cougars finished 2-and-2 in the pre-season and will start the regular season at home on Saturday, October 2nd against the Kamloops Blazers.

The Cougars are carrying 26 players, three goalies, nine defencemen, and 14 forwards.

Seven of the players are rookies and four are 20-year-olds (one over the limit); goalie Taylor Gauthier, defenceman Majid Kaddoura plus forwards Jonny Hooker, and Connor Bowie.

There are 3 P.G. boys on the team: defenceman Aiden Reeves and forwards Caden Brown and Fischer O’Brien.

Prince George Spruce Kings  6  Merritt Centennials  2  (Friday in Merritt)


The Spruce Kings have three pre-season games remaining: They visit West Kelowna on Tuesday and Penticton Wednesday before concluding exhibition play on Sunday, October 3rd when they host Merritt at 3 pm.

The UNBC men erased a 3-0 deficit by scoring three times in the final seven minutes to earn the draw

Toronto Blue Jays 6  Minnesota Twins  1

The (86-69) Jays are two games behind both the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. The Yanks and Red Sox hold down the two A.L. wild-card playoff spots. Toronto is one game ahead of the Seattle Mariners.

The Blue Jays have 7 games left; today at Minnesota, three home games against the Yankees and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and three home games against the Baltimore Orioles on Oct 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Triple-A Baseball:

Jared Young of Prince George is batting .254 since getting called up to AAA with the Iowa Cubs. The 26-year-old first baseman has four homers and 16 RBI’s in 35 games.

NFL:

There are 14 Sunday games in the NFL including Seattle at Minnesota, Tampa at LA Rams and Green Bay at San Francisco.

Carolina at 3-0 is one of seven unbeaten teams. The teams at 2-0 include San Francisco, LA Rams, Arizona, and Tampa in the NFC plus Denver and Las Vegas in the AFC.

There are seven teams sitting 0-2. They include Detroit, Minnesota, Atlanta, and New York Giants in the NFC plus New York Jets, Jacksonville, and Indianapolis in the AFC.

Week 9 of the CFL season begins Tuesday with Edmonton at Ottawa (4:30 PT).  The B.C. Lions host Winnipeg Friday night at 7:00. Games on Saturday, October 2nd have Montreal at Hamilton (1:00) followed by Saskatchewan at Calgary (4:00)
