MLB:

(7th straight victory for the Yankees)

Seattle Mariners  4  Oakland A’s  2

The (87-70) Jays are now half-a-game behind Seattle and one game back of Boston in the race for the last American League wild-card spot. The Yankees hold down the first wild-card berth by 2 games over Boston.

The Blue Jays host the Yankees again tonight and Thursday and then close with three home games this weekend against the Baltimore Orioles.

The Red Sox visit Baltimore tonight and Thursday and then play the Nationals at Washington Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Mariners host Oakland this evening and also entertain the LA Angels Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The Yanks are home against the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend.

Triple-A Baseball:

Jared Young of Prince George is batting .248 since getting called up to AAA with the Iowa Cubs. The 26-year-old first baseman has four homers and 16 RBI’s in 36 games.

 


BCHL pre-season
(PG Spruce Kings)

West Kelowna Warriors  4  Prince George Spruce Kings  3  (OT)

The Spruce Kings visit the Penticton Vees tonight (Wednesday) before concluding their pre-season with a home game Sunday afternoon at 3:00 against the Merritt Centennials.

P.G. will start the regular season Friday, October 8th in Merritt.

WHL (PG Cougars)

The WHL regular season opens this weekend. The Prince George Cougars start with a home game Saturday night at 7:00 against the Kamloops Blazers.

The Cougars finished 2-2 in the pre-season.

The Cats are carrying 26 players, three goalies, nine defencemen, and 14 forwards.

Seven of the players are rookies and four are 20-year-olds (one over the limit); goalie Taylor Gauthier, defenceman Majid Kaddoura plus forwards Jonny Hooker, and Connor Bowie.

There are 3 P.G. boys on the team: defenceman Aiden Reeves and forwards Caden Brown and Fischer O’Brien.

Former Prince George Cougar Nick Drazenovic has a new job. The 34-year-old  College Heights Secondary grad has joined Edmonton-based sports agency, The Sports Corporation (TSC) as its director of player development.

 

BC Elite Hockey League: (Cariboo Cougars & Northern Capitals)

The (1-1) U18 Cariboo Cougars host the (1-0-1) Valley West Giants Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 12:45 p.m. at Kin 1.

The (2-0) Northern Capitals play the Fraser Valley Rush Friday night at 6:45, the Thompson-Okanagan Lakers Saturday afternoon at 3:45 and the Vancouver Island Seals Sunday morning at 9 with all three games in Surrey.

NHL:

The Vancouver Canucks play their next pre-season game Friday against the Flames in Calgary.

Canada West Soccer: (UNBC Timberwolves)

The UNBC Timberwolves host UBC Okanagan in Canada West Soccer at Masich Place.

Games are scheduled for Friday and Saturday with the men kicking off at noon each day and the women to start at 6 p.m.

The UNBC men have three losses and three ties after six games while the UNBC women have six losses.

CFL: (Week 9)

Ottawa Redblacks  34  Edmonton Elks  24

Both teams are 2-and-5.

The B.C. Lions host Winnipeg Friday night at 7:00.

Games on Saturday have Montreal at Hamilton (1:00) followed by Saskatchewan at Calgary (4:00)

Standings:

West: Winnipeg 6-1, Saskatchewan 5-2, B.C. 4-3, Edmonton and Calgary 2-5
East:  Hamilton and Toronto 4-3, Montreal 2-4, and Ottawa 2-5.

NFL:

Week 4 of the NFL season begins Thursday with Jacksonville at Cincinnati.

Jacksonville is one of five teams looking for a win sitting at 0-3: the others are New York Jets and Indianapolis in the AFC plus Detroit, and New York Giants in the NFC.

Five teams have a perfect 3-0 record: LA Rams, Arizona, and Carolina in the NFC plus Denver, and Las Vegas in the AFC.
