WHL (PG Cougars) Start of the regular season

Kamloops Blazers  5  Prince George Cougars  4

Connor Levis snapped a 4-4 tie on the power-play with 4:51 left in the third period. The goal came just 2:14 after the Cougars tied the game with a power-play goal from Captain Jonny Hooker. Hudson Thornton led the Cats with a  goal and two assists.

The Cougars visit the Vancouver Giants Friday and Kamloops on Saturday.

Their next home games are against the Victoria Royals on October 16th at 7 PM and October 17th at 2 PM.

The Cats are carrying 25 players, three goalies, eight defencemen, and 14 forwards.

Six of the players are rookies and four are 20-year-olds (one over the limit); goalie Taylor Gauthier, defenceman Majid Kaddoura plus forwards Jonny Hooker, and Connor Bowie. (Gauthier sat out Saturday)

BCHL (PG Spruce Kings)

The Prince George Spruce Kings conclude their pre-season with a home game this afternoon (Sunday) at 3:00 against the Merritt Centennials.

The Spruce Kings open their regular season against the Centennials on Friday (October 8th) in Merritt.

Prince George will also play the Warriors in West Kelowna on October 9th before hosting Merritt on October 15th and 16th.

The Vancouver Canucks, coming off Friday’s 4-1 pre-season loss to the Calgary Flames,  host the Winnipeg Jets in an exhibition game this afternoon (Sunday) at 4:00.

The (90-71) Jays host Baltimore again today (Sunday) at noon PT to conclude the regular season.

Toronto is tied with Seattle, one game behind Boston and the Yankees.

The Red Sox and Yankees hold down the two American League wild-card spots by a game over the Blue Jays and Mariners.

For Toronto and Seattle to get into a tie-breaker, they must win today and have either Boston or the Yanks lose.

The Red Sox visit Washington today at noon.

The Mariners host the LA Angels today at noon.

The Yankees host Tampa Bay today at noon.

Triple-A Baseball:

Jared Young of Prince George is batting .254 since getting called up to AAA with the Iowa Cubs. The 26-year-old first baseman has 5 homers and 18 RBI’s in 37 games.

The Iowa Cubs season ends on Sunday.

West: Winnipeg 7-1, Saskatchewan 5-3, B.C. 4-4, Calgary 3-5, and Edmonton 2-5
East:  Toronto 4-3, Hamilton 4-4, Montreal 3-4, and Ottawa 2-5.

There are 14 Sunday games in the NFL including Seattle at San Francisco, Arizona at LA Rams, and Tampa Bay at New England.

Five teams have a perfect 3-0 record: LA Rams, Arizona, and Carolina in the NFC plus Denver, and Las Vegas in the AFC.

Five teams remain winless including Jacksonville at 0-4. Teams sitting at 0-3:  New York Jets and Indianapolis in the AFC plus Detroit, and New York Giants in the NFC.
