Ancient dinosaur tracks spark hopeful museum

Ancient dinosaur tracks could spark a future educational facility.

The Peace River Palaeontology Research Centre is working near Williston Lake, digging up 115 million year old footprints. These tracks could answer prehistoric questions regarding dinosaur speed and pack sizes.

Peace River Palaeontologist Rich McCrea wants to expand the current dig site, and maybe one day, share his findings with others.

“What we are hoping to do is build a facility or museum over the tracks and have it become a major tourism designation and interpretive centre. It would be great for education and would help conserve the tracks.”

The research centre is looking to expand the current 1400 square metre site in hopes of discovering more. They are currently raising funds for better field equipment.

“Just to get necessary field equipment for the work that we need to do up there because it’s a fair distance from our home institution in Tumbler Ridge” McCrea said
