Fourteen occupants of the encampment on Lower Patricia Boulevard have been moved to supportive housing units and out of the cold and elements according to the City of Prince George.
With the permission of each of the occupants, staff removed the structures after departure, for the safety and wellbeing of the remaining people still living at the site.
The city continues to work with BC Housing and other agencies to ensure the health and safety of unsheltered individuals in the downtown area by connecting them to housing and services.
In addition, two outreach coordinators along with bylaw staff are on-site every day.
“The occupants who moved to housing all moved willingly and peacefully with totes containing their belongings,” said City outreach worker Patrick Zsombor.
“I know each of these people by name and we have developed a good relationship. I am pleased they have now been provided with housing. We spoke with each of the occupants and they understood that any items left behind would be removed.”
The structures and belongings of the remaining Lower Patricia occupants have not been removed.
Last week, a structure at the encampment caught fire and had to be put out by emergency crews.
Earlier this month, the city closed the George Street encampment where 20 occupants were relocated to the Knights Inn.
