35th annual PG Iceman competition going virtual

One of Prince George’s signiture winter events is going virtual this year.

The PG Iceman is celebrating its 35th anniversary and starting January 31st, athletes can participate in a different leg of the race every week or soloists can finish the whole thing in one day.

Spokesperson, Ron Gallo told MyPGNow.com the event still has a “cult-like” following.

“I think that it’s very big. You end up with people that come and sometimes plan their holidays around it and we’ve had people participating from the east coast as well as visitors from Europe and they have participated in the past as well.”

Gallo also mentioned the modified format will have no impact on soloists.

“Even though the events are broken down on a week-by-week basis that is for individuals and teams but if you are a soloist, you can do all the events in one day.”

Here is how the five-week format will be broken down:

Week 1: Cross Country skiing

Week2: 10km and 5km run

Week 3: Speedskating

Week 4: Swimming (800 meters)

Registration for the event is $30 and a link to sign-up can be found here.
