Glory glides into Theatre Northwest next week

A new play for hockey fans is coming to Theatre Northwest in February.

“Glory” is the story of the Preston Rivulettes, a women’s hockey team in the 1930’s.

“Glory premiered in Kamloops in 2018 during the Olympics which is always an exciting time for women’s hockey,” said Playwright and Choreographer Tracey Power.

“We’d like it to be exciting all year round, in-between Olympic times, but it is pretty amazing that we’re here right now right before the next Olympics.”

Power said the play is inspired by the true story of the Preston Rivulettes, and the story is not well known.

“It’s inspiring, it’s entertaining, All the hockey is danced, it’s a style onto it’s own of hockey technique, swing dancing, jazz,” Power explained.

“It’s very emotional, action packed, exactly like a hockey game. We hope when people come to the show, they feel that they’re watching a game, and being a part of the story of the women who created this team.”

“We’re from Kamloops and were so excited to bring this show to Prince George,” said Director James MacDonald.

“It’s a great show for the BC Interior, and it’s such a terrific show about community, about a small city, and about hockey, and we know that it’s going to have a lot of appeal to people here.”

Ticket’s are on sale at Theatre Northwest’s website. Power says they’ll only have 50% capacity at the shows because of COVID-19 restrictions.
