WHL:

Spokane Chiefs  3  Prince George Cougars  2  (OT)

Raegan Wiles scored on a power-play with 32 seconds left in overtime before 2,714 fans in Spokane.

The Chiefs went 2/3 with the man advantage while the Cougars were 1/2.

Prince George earned a point when Riley Heidt scored on a power-play with 5:03 left in the third to tie the game at 2.

Koehn Ziemmer also tallied for the Cats while Hudson Thornton assisted on both goals.

Tyler Brennan made 35 saves for the Cougars, who were outshot 38-29.

Prince George is now 1-2-1-0 through four games on its U.S. Division road trip.

The (18-21-2-1) Cougars face the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday in Kent, WA. before concluding the trip Saturday in Everett against the Western Conference-leading Silvertips.

Prince George is 3rd in the B.C. Division and 6th in the Western Conference, five points ahead of the (16-21-2) Vancouver Giants.

The 20-year-old former PG Cougar posted a 7-0 January record, to go along with a 1.70 goals-against average, a .945 save percentage, and one shutout.

Prince George Spruce Kings  6  Merritt Centennials  0

Aaron Trotter earned the shutout as the Spruce Kings outshot the Centennials 45-23 before just 132 fans in Merritt.

The (20-9-3-4) Spruce Kings visit the (22-13) West Kelowna Warriors on Friday before returning to Merritt Saturday for another game against the (2-30-1-1) Centennials in Merritt.

Men’s Soccer: (World Cup qualifying in El Salvador)

It is the sixth straight win for the Canadian men, who remain atop the eight-team standings in the final round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying.

With three games remaining, Canada (7-0-4, 25 points) has a four-point cushion over Mexico and the U.S. (both 6-2-3, 21 points).

Panama (5-3-2, 17 points) stands fourth, with Costa Rica (4-3-4, 16 points) fifth.

 

 

Curling: (Canadian women’s championship in Thunder Bay)

Team Canada (Einarson) is the last unbeaten team with a 7-0 record in Pool B at the National Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Thunder Bay.

After Wednesday’s action, New Brunswick (Crawford) and Wild Card #1 (Fleury) are the co-leaders in Pool A at 6-1.

B.C. is 2-5 (in Pool B).

The UNBC Timberwolves visit the Trinity Western Spartans in men’s and women’s Canada West basketball Friday and Saturday night.

The UNBC women are 5-6 on the season while the Trinity Western women are in first place in the West Division with a 12-2 record.

The UNBC men are 4-9 while the Trinity Western men are 5-8.

(U18 Male)

The U-18 Cariboo Cougars host the South Island Royals Saturday afternoon at 2:30 and Sunday morning at 6:00 at CN Centre.

The (11-11-1-3) Cougars are 5th out of 10 teams while the (8-16-0-2) Royals are 8th.

The U-18 Female Northern Capitals visit the (4-20-1) Greater Vancouver Comets Friday night at 8:15 in Richmond.

The (15-6-0-3) Caps, sitting 2nd out of five teams, also visit the (7-15-0-1) Vancouver Island Seals Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday morning at 9:00 in Chemainus.

The U-17 Cariboo Cougars are in Richmond Saturday and Sunday for games against the second-place Greater Vancouver Canadians (20-7-1-0).

The (12-11-0-1) Cougars are in seventh-place in the 10-team division.

The U15 Cariboo Cougars are scheduled to take on the second-place Vancouver Northwest Hawks at the Fort Forum Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. in Fort St. James. The Hawks boast a record of 18-4-1-0, while the ninth-place Cougars are 5-13-0-2.
