Olympics:

Emily Dickson of Burns Lake placed 70th and Sarah Beaudry of Prince George finished 80th in the Olympic women’s 15 km individual Biathlon race today (Monday).

A total of 87 competed.

The 24-year-old Dickson made her Olympic debut.

Earlier, the 27-year-old Beaudry was part of the Canadian mixed 4 x 6 km Biathlon relay team that placed 14th out of 20 on Saturday.

Next up will be the women’s 7.5 km Biathlon Sprint on Friday (1:00 a.m. PT).

Canadian snowboarder Max Parrot from Bromont, Quebec captured Canada’s first gold medal at the Beijing Olympics.

Parrot won the men’s slopestyle event while Regina’s Mark McMorris took bronze.

Canada earned its first Olympic ski jumping medal, capturing bronze in the mixed team event.

Short-track speedskater Kim Boutin of Sherbrooke, Quebec earned a bronze in the women’s 500 metres.

The Canadian women’s Olympic hockey team is 3-0 after a 6-1 victory over the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).

Earlier, the Canadian women whipped Finland 11-1 and Switzerland 12-1.

24-year-old Meryeta O’Dine of P.G. is gearing up to compete in the Olympic women’s snowboard cross individual event this week.

 

Curling: (Canadian women’s championship)

A three-peat for Kerri Einarson and her Team Canada rink.

Einarson won the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Thunder Bay, Ontario, defeating Northern Ontario’s Krista McCarville in the final 9-6.

It was the third straight national title for Einarson, who will represent Canada at the 2022 Women’s Curling Championship in Prince George from March 19th-27th.

The Einarson team advanced to the final after eliminating Andrea Crawford of New Brunswick 8-4 in the semi.

WHL:

Everett Silvertips  6  Prince George Cougars  0  (Saturday)

The Cougars allowed a season-high 62 shots against.

Tyler Brennan made 56 saves for the Cats while Koen MacInnes earned the shutout with 24 saves.

The (32-7-2-2) Silvertips scored twice in each period before 5,419 fans in Everett.

Prince George finished the six-game U.S. road trip with a 1-4-1-0 record and is now 3-9-2-0 against the U.S. Division.

The (18-23-2-1) Cougars are 3rd in the B.C. Division and 6th in the Western Conference, five points ahead of the (16-23-2) Vancouver Giants.

(Prince George is 3-17-1-1 against the top five teams in the Western Conference and 15-6-1-0 against the four teams below them in the Conference).

Seattle Thunderbirds  7  Prince George Cougars  2  (Friday)

The Thunderbirds dominated the game scoring three times in both the first and third periods and outshooting the Cougars 48-22 before 2,416 fans in Kent, Washington.

17-year-old Nico Myatovic of Prince George picked up a pair of assists for the Thunderbirds.

Ex-PG Cougar Taylor Gauthier continues to win in the Portland Winterhawks net.

The 20-year-old Gauthier made 25 saves for the shutout in a 6-0 Friday night victory over the Tri-City Americans.

Since being traded from Prince George in late December, Gauthier is 8-0 in a Portland uniform with a 1.49 goals-against-average and a .951 save percentage.

Prince George Spruce Kings  4  Merritt Centennials  1  (Saturday)

The Spruce Kings outshot the Centennials 43-14 before 211 fans in Merritt.

The Spruce Kings extended their point streak to 15 consecutive games.

They have not lost in regulation since December 18th when they fell 2-1 to the Vipers in Vernon.

The (21-9-3-5)  Spruce Kings visit the (28-5-2-1) Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Wednesday.

Prince George is third out of nine teams in the Interior Division, three points ahead of West Kelowna.

Salmon Arm is first, a point in front of Penticton and nine ahead of Prince George.

(U18) Cariboo Cougars  4  South Island Royals  1  (Sunday)
(U18) Cariboo Cougars  7  South Island Royals  3  (Saturday)

The (13-11-1-3) Cougars are 5th out of 10 teams while the (8-18-0-2) Royals are 9th.

The Cougars are scheduled to host the second-place Greater Vancouver Canadians (20-8-1-1) this coming weekend. Games are set for Saturday and Sunday at Kin 1, at 4:30 p.m. and 10:30 a.m. respectively.

(The Caps also beat the Greater Vancouver Comets 3-1 on Friday in Richmond)

The next scheduled action for the Caps is Feb. 25-27 in Prince George when they’ll take on the last-place Greater Vancouver Comets (4-21-1-0) in a three-game set.
