Fire devastates a local family, call to action launched

A three-year-old girl has passed away following a tragic fire that devastated a Prince George family of six on Monday (February 28th) afternoon, according to family friend Derek Andrew.

Shortly before 3:00 p.m. that day, the Prince George RCMP and Prince George Fire Services were called to the 2400 block of Devonshire Crescent.

“A fire investigator from the Prince George RCMP conducted a parallel investigation with Fire Prevention Officers and an Inspector from the B.C. Safety Authority,” said PG RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

“The evidence gathered so far suggests the fire was not criminal in nature, and the scene has been turned back over to Prince George Fire Services.”

A GoFundMe page and Facebook page have been set up to try and support the family, and Andrew, one of the organizers, explained what happened.

“The mother, the son, and one of the daughters got medevacked to Vancouver. Mom is currently in a coma, and unfortunately, the three-year-old daughter took her last breathe last night (Wednesday).”

The father, Brett Martin, and his daughters are now in Vancouver to be with the rest of the family.

The community is trying to raise funds to help where they can.

“We are setting up a drop zone for donations for next Saturday (March. 12th) at the CN Centre,” said Andrew.
