PG Comedians raising money for family affected by fire

Prince George comedians will take to the stage to raise money for a family that lost everything in a fire last week.

Gypsy Entertainment Group is hosting a live stand up comedy event on Friday, with proceeds going to the Martin Family.

“The father is a very good friend of my business partner, we wanted to raise money,” said Gypsy Entertainment Group Co-Owner Dom Oliveira.

“Derek’s been doing all sorts of things with the GoFundMe, and trying to organize things. I said ‘Let’s try and make some more money, do you want to put on a show’ and he said ‘yeah, let’s do it.'”

According to Oliveira, the funds raised from the show will be able to get to the family right away, as opposed to having to wait for the GoFundMe to finish up.

“We’re just going to bring on local comics, and try to have a good time,” Oliveira said.

“It’s a tough situation, but we want to raise money, it’s the only way we know how to do it. I myself am a father, the thought of losing my three year old son just absolutely devastates me, so what they’re going through right now I don’t even want to imagine. ”

Oliveira added they are hosting a silent auction at the event. So far, they have gift certificates for cakes, car starters from Visions Electronics, and gift certificates for tattoo artists in Prince George.

“We’ve had a lot of people wanting to donate, it’s nice to see. We just want to help this family. We’ll take any donations,” Oliveira said.

The show starts at 8:00 p.m. Friday night at the Firm Lounge and Grill.
