Vehicle impounded after driver caught 50 km/h over the speed limit in PG

The Prince George RCMP impounded a vehicle Monday evening for traveling nearly double the speed limit within city limits.

Police say around 5:00 p.m. on Monday, a vehicle was observed speeding near Foothills Boulevard and 5th avenue.

According to police, the in-car radar confirmed the vehicle was traveling at 110km/h in a 60km/h zone.

A traffic stop was conducted, and police observed the driver only had a class 7 “N” or Novice licence.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days, and the driver issued violation tickets for excessive speeding and failing to display their “N” sign,” said PG RCMP Spokesperson Cpl. Jen Cooper.

“In total, the driver received $477 in tickets. He will also be responsible for the tow fee and the impound fees when he picks up his car.”

Cooper added there was no harm done to any other users of the road.

According to ICBC, speed is a contributing factor in 28% of fatal car crashers.

The Prince George RCMP reminds drivers that it is not only yourself you are putting at risk when speeding, but also all the other motorists and pedestrians on the road around you.
