PG’s Chase Harrington says Chiefs selection is “quite the honour,”

Chase Harrington helped make history during yesterday’s (Thu) WHL Prospects Draft as he was one of two PG products taken in the top-10 – the first time that has happened.

Harrington of the Delta Hockey Academy was selected 8th overall by the Spokane Chiefs while Cameron Schmidt who plays out of the Rink Academy in Kelowna was taken seventh by the Vancouver Giants.

Harrington told MyPGNow.com they know each other quite well.

“Yeah, we’ve been pretty good friends since we were little kids always on the same team and stuff.”

Both players are participating in the World Youth Hockey Championship that begins today (Friday) in Philadelphia.

“It’s mostly made up of CSSHL kids (Canadian Sport School Hockey League) where we have a couple of kids from each academy including the Burnaby Winter Club, Edge Academy, and Rink.”

All in all, it was a pretty special moment for Harrington who got to enjoy it with a lot of his close friends south of the border.

“It was just after practice (when I got picked) and I was just watching the draft with a couple of buddies and then I found out and was pretty excited. I talked to the Chiefs a few times before the draft as they showed a lot of interest.”

Harrington posted 50 points in 29 games last season with Delta. He added the move to the Lower Mainland was necessary but has been quite the adjustment.

“There’s a lot more people, stuff like that. Lots of traffic everywhere but in terms of hockey, we are on the ice a lot more and working out. It’s good development.”

In addition, PG’s Ryder Green of the Cariboo Cougars was selected in the eighth round by the Brandon Wheatkings
