Scrap tire collection being held in PG this Saturday

Tire Stewardship BC (TSBC) will be in Prince George holding a scrap tire collection event at Kal Tire on Boundary Road on Saturday (June 11th) from 9 AM to 1 PM.

Executive Director for TSBC, Rosemary Sutton, said these tires can be recycled into a number of things.

“These collection events are an effective and efficient way for community residents to return their scrap tires conveniently and at no charge. They also present a great opportunity to educate British Columbians on the many products that scrap tires are recycled into, such playground safety surfacing, recreational flooring, water parks, animal mats, garden mulch and truck bed liners.”

“Over the years TSBC has provided several grants to organizations in Prince George who have used recycled B.C. tires in an environmentally friendly manner for a variety of projects. For example, TSBC provided the City of Prince George with a $20,000 grant to go towards 4,025 sq. ft. of new dressing room floors at the CN Centre, made from 575 scrap tires,” said Sutton.

She added that there are 22 locations around PG that people can return their scrap tires to throughout the year.

TSBC said since 1991, over 100 million tires have been recycled in BC.
