BC Summer Games:

Cariboo-North East earned 33 medals, including 10 gold, to place sixth out of eight regions at the B.C. Summer Games in Prince George.

North West athletes finished with eight gold and 20 medals.

Vancouver Island-Central Coast led the way with 133 medals, which included 53 gold.

Josiah Wilkinson of P.G. racked up three gold and silver in Boys 16-17-year-olds Triathlon while the Cariboo-North East (Zone 8) girls rugby team captured Bronze.

During the closing celebration, Mischa Grover of Kamloops was awarded the W.R. Bennett Award for Athletic Excellence, which comes with a $2,500 bursary.

BC Football conference: (Saturday night in Chilliwack)

Valley Huskers  31  Prince George Kodiaks  5

It was the first-ever game for the Kodiaks who will have their home opener on Saturday, August 6th at 7 PM when they host the Kamloops Broncos at Masich Place Stadium.

 

CFL: (Final game in Week 7)

Toronto Argonauts  31  Saskatchewan Roughriders  21

The 3-2 Argos are first in the East, two points ahead of 2-4 Montreal.

The 4-1 B.C. Lions visit 4-3 Saskatchewan Friday night just after 6:00.

The Lions are tied with Calgary for second in the West.

LPGA:

Canadian Brooke Henderson won her second major on the LPGA Tour by scoring a one-shot victory at the Evian Championship in France.

The 24-year-old Henderson birdied the final hole for her 12th career win.

Toronto Blue Jays  8  Boston Red Sox  4

It was the sixth straight victory for the (53-43) Jays, who start a six-game homestand Tuesday night (4:07) against the (51-46) St. Louis Cardinals.

Toronto is 2nd in the AL East and holding down the first of three wild-card spots.
