2022 BC Summer Games – The Spirit Lives On

In Dekelh, this translates to I am thankful for what you have done.  Truer words have never been spoken.  For over a year a team of volunteers have put in hundreds if not thousands of hours planning and preparing to showcase the beautiful unceded ancestral lands of the Lheidli T’enneh and spirit of our community and region. They dealt with so many changes and uncertainties as we simultaneously navigated our changing world.

Our volunteer team grew exponentially as we got closer to the games. A few thousand caring individuals stepped up, wore their orange shirts that shone almost as bright as the smiles on their faces as they welcomed and supported 3000 of our province’s best young athletes and their families and friends who came to cheer them on. On behalf of the 2022 BC Summer Games Host Society Board of Directors, thank you all for making our Games such a huge success.

Let the Games and Fellowship Begin

To my fellow community members, the moment the participants arrived, they felt our spirit: our warm and genuine hospitality, and our cheers. I am grateful for each and every individual who contributed to make this event such an incredible success. As a former BC Games athlete, the Games are close to my heart. I know firsthand the impact that sporting opportunities have on youth. We collectively positively shaped the lives of 3000 athletes.

To the members of the Board of Directors, Mussi for your lending your experience and expertise and for the many hours we spent together planning for these Games. You inspired and encouraged your teams to keep moving forward during the good times and when the challenges seemed insurmountable.   I want to recognize Host Society Vice President Selen Alpay. The only thing bigger than his generosity is his heart, and he poured his whole heart into these Games and the Games were better because of his many contributions.

With Many Thanks

To our Friends of the Games, thank you for your immense generosity to ensure that our Games not only happened, but were truly exceptional. I shouldn’t be surprised, but am still blown away by how our community steps up time and time again.

The memories made will last a lifetime and our spirit lives on in the hearts of everyone who visited our home in the legacy of the Games today, tomorrow, and long after we’re gone.

Spirit lives here! Njan Tsen Ghuna.
