Local race car driver becomes first woman to win PGARA’s Street Stock Points title

Prince George’s Desiree Case is now forever etched in the PGARA history books.

Over the weekend, she became the first female driver to claim the Street Stocks Points Championship.

In an interview with MyPGNow.com, the 26-year-old said the accomplishment is still sinking in.

“I have been racing for 12 years now and I won the hornets championship many years ago but with the street stock one, I didn’t think I could do it with this car. This car has gone above and beyond what we thought it could do this year.” said Case.

“I’ve always wanted to do it and to be able to say I am the first female to win it, I can’t even put words to it. It’s absolutely amazing.”

Case didn’t make the decision to race until finding out PGARA put new pavement onto the track a mere two weeks before the season kicked off.

“I was honestly going into the season to just honestly be another car, the car was up this year. I started winning, got better and faster, and eventually came out on top.”

While Danica Patrick is the most successful woman in the history of American open-wheel car racing – she also competed in NASCAR’s Cup Series full-time for five years.

However, it was a fellow female stock car driver from the Cariboo that was Case’s inspiration.

“Honestly, it was Sarah Cornett-Ching from Williams Lake. She went on top, went down to the States, and raced down there. She is one of the biggest ones that I look up to. Again, she went above and beyond and was doing really good. It was mostly her (that I looked up to) and she is local to BC,”

The Kelly Road Secondary graduate chuckled that the sport has become a family affair.

“My dad used to drag race and used to snowmobile race as well. But, my older brother Tyler started racing mini-stocks about 15 years ago now. He helped a friend and he built a car and then the whole family was racing.”

“I am racing now and I can’t get rid of the addiction,” added Case.

As for her racing future, Case isn’t quite sure how much longer she will be competing, but admits claiming another title wouldn’t be too shabby.

“If I go through another season of street stocks I will put my dad through more work as we will have to re-body the entire car and try to make it that much faster. I have a Camaro sitting around that I could finish building but I haven’t really decided if I can.”

“It would be cool to win another championship next year.”

Case and her All Out Racing Team were sponsored by Country 97 FM and PG Direct Automotive.
