WHL:

The Prince George Cougars begin their regular season with four straight games on home ice, two this weekend.

The Cougars entertain the Tri-City Americans tonight (Friday) at 7:00 and Saturday at 6:00.

BCHL: 

The Prince George Spruce Kings are on the road to start their BCHL season.

The Spruce Kings visit the Coquitlam Express tonight and the Langley Rivermen Saturday before hosting the Vernon Vipers on September 30th and October 1st.

Canada West Soccer:

The UNBC Timberwolves are home this weekend in Canada West men’s and women’s soccer at Masich Place Stadium.

The (3-4-1) UNBC men host (1-4-2) Saskatchewan tonight at 5:00 and (2-2-3) MacEwan Sunday at noon.

The (2-3-1) UNBC women entertain (7-0) UBC this evening at 7:15 and (2-4-1) Victoria Sunday afternoon at 2:15.

Tampa Bay Rays  10  Toronto Blue Jays  5

The same teams continue a 4-game series when they play again tonight (4:10 PT) in Tampa Bay.

The (84-66) Jays, with just 12 regular season games left, lead the American League Wild Card standings and are second in the A.L East, one game ahead of Tampa.

Jared Young of Prince George did not play in the Chicago Cubs’ 3-2 victory (Thursday) over the Pirates in Pittsburgh.

In four games with the Cubs since his call-up from Triple-A Iowa, the 27-year-old Young is batting .231, going 3-for-13 with a walk.

 

NFL: (Start of Week 3)

Cleveland Browns  29  Pittsburgh Steelers  17

The Browns took over first in the AFC North at 2-1 while the Steelers fell to 1-2.

There are 14 games in the NFL Sunday including 2-0 Buffalo at 2-0 Miami, 2-0 Kansas City at winless Indy, Green Bay at 2-0 Tampa Bay, and 2-0 Philadelphia at Washington.

The Monday night game has Dallas at 2-0 New York Giants.

The B.C. Lions host the Calgary Stampeders Saturday night at 7:00.

The (9-3) Lions are second in the West Division, six points behind (12-2) Winnipeg and two ahead of (8-5) Calgary.

Week 16 of the CFL season starts tonight (4:30 PT) with (4-9) Hamilton at (5-7) Montreal.

The (1-6) Prince George Kodiaks host the (3-4) Kamloops Broncos Saturday night at 7:00 at Masich Place Stadium in the BC Football Conference.
