SD 57 Trustee Candidate Cory Antrim says public schools have become ‘pay to participate system’

Cory Antrim wants to help make school programs more affordable.

Antrim, a part-time teacher at St. Mary’s Elementary School, owner of Antrim Charters, and a father of four, says he started thinking about running a while ago.

“I think the seed was really planted when I was in high school my basketball coach at the time when I grew up in Williams Lake took me to a board meeting, where they were trying to fight the cuts that were happening to sports teams and extracurricular activities,” Antrim said.

Antrim said he became an education assistant, a coach, and eventually became a teacher.

“Through all that time, just continuing to hear about the cuts, cuts to this cuts to that, so many cuts for special needs, for so many programs,” he continued.

“It’s created a system now where it’s not really public education, it’s a pay to participate system.”

He added he wants to allocate money to improve the outdoor areas around schools.

“Those kind of places can help bring communities together,” he said.

The municipal election will take place on October 15th.
