WHL:

Prince George Cougars  5  Portland Winterhawks  4  (Shootout)

The Cougars trailed 4-2 midway through the third period before Chase Wheatcroft and Ondrej Becher scored goals just 49 seconds apart at 12:16 and 13:05.

It was the second goal of the game for Becher.

The Cougars won the shootout 3-2 Wednesday night as Noah Boyko notched the shootout winner before 1,761 fans in Portland.

Ty Young made 36 saves for Prince George as Portland outshot the guests 40-31.

The 7-7 Cougars began a five-game road Tuesday with a 6-3 loss to the Seattle Thunderbirds on Tuesday.

P.G. will visit the (3-8) Spokane Chiefs Friday and Saturday.

The (9-3-0-1) Prince George Spruce Kings visit the (14-0) Penticton Vees Friday night at 7:00 and the (7-5-0-1) Salmon Arm Silverbacks Saturday night at 6:00.

The Spruce Kings are third in the nine-team BCHL Interior Division.

Tage Thompson had a goal and added an assist for the Sabres to give the 6-foot-7 forward 11 points in his last three games.

The (2-6-2) Vancouver Canucks host the Anaheim Ducks tonight at 7:00 in one of 13 Thursday games in the NHL (with Toronto the only Canadian team idle).

Four Astros pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter.

It was the first combined no-hitter in the Fall Classic.

The World Series is tied 2-2 with Game 5 tonight (5:03 PT) in Philadelphia.

The UNBC Timberwolves begin their Canada West basketball season this weekend at the Northern Sport Centre.

The Timberwolves host the Trinity Western Spartans Friday night at 5:00 and 7:00 and Saturday at 4:00 and 6:00.

The women take the court first followed by the men.

NBA:

The (5-3) Raptors visit the (4-3) Dallas Mavericks Friday night (5:30 PT).

BC Elite Hockey League: (BCEHL)

(U18)

The (5-2-1) U18 Cariboo Cougars, who are unbeaten in six, visit the (3-5-1-1) Vancouver North East Chiefs Saturday afternoon at 3:30 and Sunday morning at 10:45 in Burnaby.

(U18 female)

The (5-8-1) Northern Capitals visit the (10-4) Vancouver Island Seals in Chemainus Saturday afternoon at 3:00 and Sunday morning at 8:30.

The two teams played a triple-header last weekend in Prince George with the Seals winning two of the three games.

NFL: 

Week nine of the NFL season starts tonight (5:15 PT) with the Philadelphia Eagles at the Houston Texans.

The 7-0 Eagles have the best record in the league while the 1-5-1 Texans have the worst record in the AFC.

CFL:

The CFL playoffs start on Sunday.

In the West, the B.C. Lions host the Calgary Stampeders in the division semi-final (1:30 p.m.).

Both teams finished the regular season with a record of 12-6.

The winner will visit the (15-3) Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the West final on November 13th.

In the East, the (9-9) second-place Montreal Alouettes entertain the (8-10) Hamilton Tiger-Cats (10 a.m.) in the division semi with the winner to play at the (11-7) Toronto Argonauts in the East final.
