Nearly 3,100 metres of sidewalk rehabilitated in PG this year

2022 was a busy year for city crews rehabilitating sidewalks, but there’s still a lot left to do.

According to a report by Director of Civic Operations Blake McIntosh that will be presented to City Council at tomorrow’s (Monday) meeting, 3,095 lineal metres of sidewalks have received maintenance this year, and 633 metres of new sidewalks were installed this year.

For this year’s budget, $ 1.25 million (up from $700,000 in 2021) was allocated for sidewalk rehabilitation, while $400,000 was allocated to new sidewalks.

McIntosh’s report reads this was enough to complete approximately 2 per cent of the current road path pedestrian network.

It also notes that the most recent pedestrian network study identifies 44 per cent of the current road path network to be in fair to poor condition.

Additionally, approximately 44 lane-kilometres of roads were rehabilitated this year.

The budget for road rehabilitation this year was $5.5-million, down from $5.95-million in 2021.

Other items to be discussed at tomorrow’s meeting include Councillor Kyle Sampson’s notice of motion to bring provincial representatives to Prince George for a meeting on the city’s social issues, and an update on this year’s significant capital projects.
