Jordan Fairlie made 35 saves in the victory and lost his shutout bid with just 1:19 left in the 3rd period.

The Smoke Eaters broke open a 1-1 tie with four unanswered goals in the first seven minutes of the second period.

The Bucks snapped a 2-2 tie with a pair of third-period goals just 2:15 apart before 2,213 fans in Cranbrook.

Chase Wheatcroft opened the scoring with his Cougars team-record 19th power-play goal of the season.

Koehn Ziemmer tallied twice, including the winner at 5:14 of the third and the empty netter before 3,539 fans at CN Centre.

The Cougars have outscored the Royals 26-6 in winning all four games this season.

The (21-21-4) Cougars host the (17-26-3) Kelowna Rockets Tuesday and Wednesday.

Following WHL games Sunday, Prince George is 2nd in the B.C. Division and 6th in the Western Conference, two points ahead of Vancouver and six points behind Everett.

The Cougars have three games in hand on both the Giants and the Silvertips.

NHL: 

Former Vancouver Canucks captain Bo Horvat has signed an eight-year contract with the New York Islanders, worth a total of $68 million.

This deal comes one week after he was dealt from the Canucks.

The 27-year-old Horvat had 54 points (31 goals) in 49 games with Vancouver this season.

With the All-Star break completed, NHL regular season action resumes with six games tonight (Monday), including Vancouver at New Jersey (4:30 PT) as the (20-26-3) Canucks begin a four-game road trip.
