25th Annual Prince George MS Walk hoping to raise record numbers Sunday

Prince George’s 25th annual MS Canada Walk is being held at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park on Sunday morning, hoping to raise $40,000 for MS research projects.

“We are getting close to halfway right now,” Sandra Sticrany, a walk organizer, told My PG Now.

She said the money being raised goes to MS Canada – 70% of which goes directly into research.

“Out of that research, we have probably 20 useful treatments for people with MS to help control symptoms and control the advance of the disease,” Sticrany explained. Some money also goes towards community supports and equipment.

The walk will start at 11:00 with music and speeches from Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond, City Councilor Susan Scott, members from the Lheidli T’enneh council, and people with MS who will share their stories.

The actual two-and-a-half kilometer walk around the park will begin at around noon.

There will be a barbecue waiting for walkers when they finish the lap, A&W will have a root beer float stand set up, and live entertainment will be performed in the band shell.

Being the 25th edition of the event, Sticrany hopes it will be “bigger and better” than ever before.

She said the best way to donate to the cause is online, that way organizers at the event do not have to worry about carrying large amounts of cash, and tax receipts can be issues quickly and automatically.

The Hospice Colour walk (10:00am – 12:00pm) and the Prince George Alzheimer’s walk (1:30pm start) will also be taking place on Sunday.
