Full day outdoor festival being held in Prince George this weekend

Another summer event is coming to Prince George this weekend.

A Wild About Outdoors Festival is being held at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club on Saturday (June 24) from 9:00 to 4:00.

Hank Banack, an organizer of the event, told My PG Now the event is built on four pillars:

“The first, it is educational in some way. The second, it is experiential, you are not just sitting at a desk with someone talking to you, the third pillar is that it is outdoors – duh, and the fourth is it is totally free. We have honoured all four in this festival.”

Banack said the festival does not have an official name yet, right now it is going by “Wild About Outdoors-Lheidli T’enneh/Prince George,” which he admitted does not roll off the tongue very well.

The festival is based off a very similar Vancouver event, which Banack used to be a part of organizing before he moved to Prince George for a job at UNBC.

Local Indigenous groups, UNBC, and local organizations will all be featured at the event.

“We are really hoping this becomes an annual event,” he said. “The idea of the event is it is to celebrate outdoors and our connections with being outdoors… absolutely we want this to be annual.”

The schedule features different outdoor events every half an hour, as well as different booths and activities to check out during the day.
