Praying for the rain? PG records just 15 millimetres of the wet stuff in September

Prince George enjoyed the fifth-driest September on record.

That’s according to Environment Canada who says the northern capital reached roughly 11 degrees while the normal high for this time of year is 10.4.

In terms of precipitation, PG only saw 15 millimeters of rain in September, well shy of the 56 mm mark normally reached for the month.

Meteorologist, Bobby Sekohn told MyPGNow.com while October has gotten off to a wet start it’s not likely to stay that way.

“That’s going to give some very warm temperatures, upwards of seven degrees above normal by Friday and Saturday and we are almost 20 degrees. That is pretty high for the first week of October.”

He adds El Nino is setting up for the winter season in PG, which usually means milder winter – the effects of it often don’t show up until after Christmas.

“We know the fall can also be a shoulder season with all sorts of weather so we need to stay tuned.”

However, Sekohn did mention overnight lows are expected to reach minus one by Wednesday evening, which could lead to some slippery sections on local roads.
