WHL:

The Prince George Cougars have acquired 18-year-old forward Matteo Danis (Da-Nee) from the Calgary Hitmen in return for a fourth-round pick in the 2025 Prospects Draft.

Danis notched 27 points (12G, 15A) in 65 games with the Hitmen in 2022-23, and has scored twice (with no assists) in eight games this season.

The PG Cougars have a pair of home games on Community Heroes Weekend at CN Centre.

The (7-3) Cougars host the (1-6-2) Kamloops Blazers on Saturday night at 6:00 and the (6-3-1) Medicine Hat Tigers on Sunday night at 5:00.

The Tigers, who won 3-2 in Langley on Wednesday against Vancouver, play Friday in Kamloops before heading to PG.

The (2-1) Vancouver Canucks continue a 5-game road trip tonight (4:00 PT) in Tampa Bay against the (1-2-1) Lightning.

Connor Bedard plays his 5th NHL game for the Chicago Blackhawks on the road in Denver against the Colorado Avalanche.

BCHL:

The (1-3-2) Prince George Spruce Kings host the (4-3) Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Friday night at 7:00 and Saturday night at 6:00 at the Kopar Memorial Arena.

The Spruce Kings, who have played the fewest games in the league, are last in the 8-team Interior Conference, while Salmon Arm is 5th.

NFL:

Former B.C. Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke of Victoria has been promoted to the Jacksonville Jaguars active roster.

The move comes after starter Trevor Lawrence suffered a knee injury on Sunday.

Lawrence is listed as day-to-day as the (4-2) Jags get ready to play the (3-3) Saints tonight (5:15 PT) in New Orleans to start Week 7 of the NFL season.

CFL: 

The (12-5) B.C. Lions close out their regular season when they host the (5-11) Calgary Stampeders Friday night at 7:00.

The Stamps are just two points behind the (6-11) Saskatchewan Roughriders for the third and final playoff spot in the West Division.

The CFL  has a pair of games on Saturday in Week 20: (14-2) Toronto at Saskatchewan (1:00 PT) followed by (4-13) Edmonton at (12-4) Winnipeg (4:00).

The Blue Bombers need one more win or a Lions loss to clinch the top spot in the West.

Winnipeg will conclude its regular season with a game in Calgary on Friday, October 27th.

Canada West Soccer:

It is the final weekend of the regular season in Canada West men’s soccer.

The (4-7-2) UNBC Timberwolves play a doubleheader in Kelowna against the (3-9) UBC Okanagan Heat on Saturday and Sunday with both games starting at noon.

UNBC is 5th in the Pacific Division with the top four to advance to playoffs.

(6-7-1) Thompson Rivers is 4th with its final game Sunday afternoon at (2-6-3) MacEwan.

BC Elite Hockey League:

The U18 Cariboo Cougars visit the (4-3-0-1) Okanagan Rockets on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 and Sunday morning at 10:00 in Kelowna in the 9-team BC Elite Hockey League.

The (6-1-1) Cougars are in a three-way tie for first place alongside the Chiefs and the Valley West Giants.
