Record amount raised at 9th Annual Timberwolves Legacy Night

The UNBC Timberwolves have set an all-time fundraising record at this year’s Legacy Night.

$144,000 was raised during the evening, taking the throne from last year’s fundraiser.

“I am truly stunned and beyond thankful. The amount of support we receive year after year blows me away,” said UNBC Director of Athletics, Loralyn Murdoch. “Last year, with 140,000 dollars, felt like a total that was difficult to fathom. When I saw the total this year, I was floored. The community that supports our program and our amazing student-athletes is incredible.”

All of the money raised goes towards scholarships and bursaries for Timberwolves athletes.

UNBC alumni Chantelle and Warren Grafton were this year’s keynote speakers.

“You could have heard a pin drop. Warren and Chantelle were absolutely amazing,” said Murdoch. “When planning this event, we were looking for a speaker or speakers who represented what we are trying to do here with Timberwolves Athletics. “Team Grafton exceeded all of our expectations and wildest dreams. Their story, told with absolute honesty, and some humour, was something none of us will forget.”

This was the second year where the event was held as a dinner instead of a breakfast, which Murdoch thinks has helped fundraising totals and public interest tremendously.

She said “Our goal to make the event more social, more interactive, and more of an opportunity for our athletes to get to know the people that support them. Clearly, we have found a great formula, and the reception of Legacy Night has been phenomenal.”
