St. Vincent de Paul Society ready for another Community Christmas fundraiser

Vista Radio’s annual two-day Community Christmas Fundraiser in support of St. Vincent De Paul takes place Wednesday and Thursday.

Last year’s event raised well over $40,000 – over half were cash and cheque donations.

Spokesperson, Bernie Goold told MyPGNow.com facilities like theirs are seeing between a 30-40% increase in foot traffic over the past year as the current affordability crisis continues to worsen.

“It has been a very busy year, a very different year and we are seeing more and more working poor and seniors coming for help. So, we feel blessed that we can assist them because it’s a sad statistic.”

She mentioned the cumulative financial impact from the fundraiser has allowed them to set up a fruit and vegetable bag every week for those who come in and need help.

“And honestly, to think that I never in my lifetime would have thought an apple or an orange would be considered a luxury item for so many people in our community.”

In addition to cash and food, Goold said there is also a huge need for pre-teen clothing and toys this year.

“So, if you’ve got children out there between the ages of 9-13 and you would be thinking of something for them for Christmas it would certainly be great if you could drop something off at the radio station.”

The fundraiser will run from 6 am to 6 pm both days from our studios at 2977 Ferry Avenue.
