St John housefire caused by ‘unapproved cooking and heating sources’ – city

The house fire that caused an estimated $500,000 damage in College Heights on Tuesday has been deemed an accident.

According to the city, the fire was caused by “unapproved cooking and heating sources,” and contained a number of small explosions.

No further information was provided.

20 firefighters from three halls responded to the fire on the 8000 block of St John Crescent just before 7:00 on Tuesday night.

None of them were injured, however, one person inside the house was taken to the hospital for observation.

It took several hours to put out the fire.
