WHL:

A day after being named WHL Rookie of the Week for the 4th time this season, Prince George Cougars sniper Terik Parascak was one of 18 WHL players selected to compete in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects game.

It will be played on January 24th, in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Parascak, a “B” ranked skater by NHL Central Scouting, has 52 points (26G, 26A) in 33 games with the Cougars to lead all rookies in CHL scoring.

He will be joined in the game by Chetwynd product Cayden Lindstrom of the Medicine Hat Tigers, who has 46 points (27G, 19A) in 32 games.

The (24-9) first-place Cougars return to action when they host the Edmonton Oil Kings on Wednesday, Dec. 27th and the Calgary Hitmen on Thursday, Dec. 28th.

PG Cougars associate coach Jim Playfair is headed to Switzerland where he will be an assistant coach for Team Canada at the Spengler Cup that begins on Boxing Day.

The (22-9-2) Canucks conclude a 4-game road trip Thursday (5:00) against the (18-8-4) Stars in Dallas. Vancouver is second in the Pacific Division just a point behind (21-7-5) Vegas.

The Senators blew a 3-0 lead midway through the second period in losing their first game since Jacques Martin took over as head coach, replacing the fired D.J. Smith.

BCHL:

The (9-15-3) Prince George Spruce Kings return to action on Dec. 29th and 30th when they host the (19-6-3) West Kelowna Warriors.

The Spruce Kings are last in the 8-team Interior Division, five points behind the 7th place (11-13-3-1) Merritt Centennials and six back of the (13-15-1) Cranbrook Bucks.

The Warriors are 2nd, just three points back of the (19-6-3) Penticton Vees.

BC Elite Hockey League:

The (16-5-1) U18 Cariboo Cougars are idle until the New Year.

They resume league play on January 6th and 7th when they host the (4-16-1-1) Thompson Blazers.

Cariboo is in second place in the 9-team BC Elite Hockey League, three points behind the (17-3-0-2) Vancouver North East Chiefs and just a point ahead of the (16-4) Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.

Canada West basketball: 

The UNBC Timberwolves will resume Canada West basketball league play on Friday, January 5th and Saturday, January 6th when they host the Lethbridge Pronghorns.

UNBC has a record of 5-3 for the men and 2-6 for the women.

Lethbridge is 0-10 (men) and 7-3 (women).

NBA:

The (11-15) Raptors host the defending champion (18-10) Denver Nuggets tonight (Wednesday 4:30).
