United Way Tree of Lights campaign extended until the new year

The Tree of Lights has raised a little over half of United Way’s $50,000 goal, sitting at over $25,700 right now.

While the campaign was originally supposed to end today (Thursday), United Way will now be accepting donations until January 3rd.

Lorna Bihori, a United Way Northern BC Campaign Manager, told My PG Now the tree will be fully lit up for the holidays tomorrow, but donations are still rolling in.

“Some people mean to and just didn’t have time, we hear a lot of that,” she explained.

They are also holding a special draw for a pedicure package for people who donate between tomorrow and the new year.

One of the biggest changes this year was with the tree itself, now found in the lobby instead of the roof of the Coast Hotel.

“We have heard so many great compliments about people being able to do photos at the tree and at the sleigh the Coast put out for us,” Bihori said.

The move was mainly due to a lack of volunteer power, she said the tree’s location moving forward has not been decided.

All the proceeds will go towards “programs and services for children and youth in Prince George.”

“We do understand it is a tough time for everyone right now, just know and understand that every little bit makes a huge difference in the community, we are all feeling it,” Bihori added.

Donations are being collected at Central Builders, the Coast Hotel, or online here.
