Prince George dog dies in apparent poisoning

A Prince George family is mourning after losing their dog to an apparent poisoning.

Bree Adey says their dog Dobby was acting lethargic and odd, prompting her to call a vet.

“They said to bring him down, and we were getting ready to do that. Then he started breathing really heavily… and about 5 minutes later he passed away in my arms.”

After a post mortem, Ospika Animal Hospital says they were suspicious is was rat poison. However, they could not confirm 100% the cause of death.

The Hospital says accidental poisonings from rat poison are quite common, but Abdey says she doesn’t keep the stuff around her house.

“I have a little girl, so I have to keep everything up. I don’t have, I mean I’ve never even seen what rat poison looks like. I actually had to Google to see what I was looking for.”

Adey says she has searched her yard continuously over the past three days and has yet to find anything. She says she is also worried for her daughter’s safety, who spends lots of time in the yard.

She added that she has a large yard and hadn’t taken the dogs out for a walk in a few days before the incident.

“They don’t get out of the yard, they are not mean. I mean they bark every once and a while but that’s normal for dogs. There is nothing that we’ve done, I just don’t know why someone would do that.”

Adey has since filed a report with the PG RCMP. She lives in the “Heritage” neighbourhood near Wilson Park.
