Para Biathlon World Championships’ opening ceremony to be held Tuesday

Athletes from all across the world will be arriving in Prince George over the weekend and into next week as the 2024 Para Biathlon World Championships begin on Wednesday (March 6).

An opening ceremony will be held the day before on Tuesday at the Civic Centre.

According to the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club, between the 2024 Para Biathlon World Championships and the Para Nordic World Cup Finals that immediately follow, 185 athletes from 20 countries will compete in Prince George over 12 days.

In a news release, John Aalberg, 2024 Chief of Competitions, said “From a competition standpoint, we are set to witness an impressive display of skill and determination. The Para Biathlon World Championships and the ensuing Para Nordic World Cup Finals bring together the world’s best athletes in these disciplines, setting the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable series of events. Our teams have worked tirelessly to ensure that the
competitions will be a spectacular showcase of Para sports.”

The ceremony kicks off at 6:30, it is free for the public to attend and will conclude with a fireworks show.
