City of PG continues it’s fight on poverty

The City of Prince George continues it’s fight against poverty.

The Community Poverty Reduction Strategy was launched earlier this year.

Councillor, Murry Krause says finding employment is only half the battle.

“Most people living in poverty in BC have at least one job, so it’s not about getting a job it’s about when you have a job about getting paid decently and fairly and all of those policy issues.”

Krause adds the focus should be about eliminating poverty and not making it more acceptable.

“It’s not about helping people live better in poverty it’s about elimination of poverty, what’s happened over the years, there has been kind of a movement to chairitize the solution in terms of making sure more food bank are available.”

The issue surrounding affordable housing isn’t being taken lightly by the city.

“The City of Prince George is working hard on the whole affordable housing situation, because we know that is one of the things, is very difficult for people to manage they have housing they cannot afford in addition to not having enough money at home.”

Krause encourages residents to ask all Federal candidates in both PG riding’s to question them on the matter.
