Another nightclub for downtown Prince George?

Another nightclub could be lining Third Avenue in the near future.

At last night’s (Monday) meeting, Prince George City Council gave their support to the nightclub’s application for a liquor licence.

The nightclub has been dubbed “Alibis 2.0” in the business’ letter of intent, and will be located at 1366 Third Avenue.

“There was a time years ago when we had half a dozen night clubs downtown, the night scene downtown was vibrant, there was lots of people around, the taxis were busy, the restaurants we’re busy later on,” said Councillor Brian Skakun.

“If you can get that many people downtown on any given night, I think it’s great for downtown.”

“Any opportunity we have people in the downtown is great,” said Councillor Tim Bennett.

“I think we’ve heard the need for more vibrant nightlife in downtown, and we’ve heard through conversations with people downtown, the importance of getting people into our downtown core past 7:00 o’clock at night.”

The City of Prince George does not issue liquor licences, but the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch requires local governments to review the application, gathers views of residents who will be affected by the proposal, and passes a resolution on the application.
