Burgess Creek Area Evacuation Alert has been lifted

The Cariboo Regional District Emergency Operations Centre has lifted the Evacuation Alert in the Burgess Creek Area between Williams Lake and Quesnel.

The decision was made earlier this (Monday) morning at 10:30 and the original Alert was issued back on Sunday, April 21st.

The CRD said should conditions change, an Evacuation Alert or Evacuation Order will be reinstated as necessary.

The Burgess Creek Wildfire, approximately 20 kilometres East of Alexandria, continues to be roughly 1,800 hectares in size and is now categorized as being held.

“The recent precipitation and cooler temperatures have helped in decreasing the fire behaviour and limiting it’s growth,” said Fire Information Officer Jeromy Corrigan.

“BC Wildfire crews will now be focusing on hot spots within the perimeter of the fire. There continues to be roughly 125 BC Wildfire Service firefighters on the fire as well as local contract firefighter crews.”
