Prince George to be flirting with May 10th temperature record

It is only early May, but this weekend will already feel like summer.

Ken Dosanjh, an Environment Canada Meteorologist, confirmed to My PG Now that tomorrow’s (Friday) high of 26 degrees could represent an all-time temperature record.

“Our previous temperature record for May 10th was 25.4 degrees, set in 2019,” Dosanjh said. “We are noticing a ridge of high pressure pushing into the central interior, especially tomorrow.”

Saturday’s forecasted high is down to 24 degrees, Dosanjh said that is still eight degrees above seasonal but will not be breaking the 27.8 degree record set in 1971.

He added the rest of May is expected to be warmer than the seasonal average.

This weekend will likely mark the first lake trips for many this year, Dosanjh is cautioning people that while it is warm outside, large bodies of water will still be much colder and hypothermia is still considered a risk at this time of year.
