Unstable air mass to bring rainy conditions to Prince George

Six consecutive days of rain look to be on the horizon for Prince George.

According to Environment Canada, the showery activity is expected to begin today (Friday) and is not expected to wrap up until Wednesday.

Meteorologist, Brian Proctor told MyPGNow.com an unstable front is bringing the rain along with it.

“A fairly unsettled and fairly unstable air mass is lingering across portions of Western Canada. It’s right through about the next six days at this point in time. What we are seeing is these little impulses drifting about in those cold air mass aloft producing shower activity, which you are well aware.”

He mentioned the wet weather will assist wildfire effort in the short term but the drought conditions plaguing the local fire centre won’t be going away any time soon.

“The moisture we are seeing and the general coolness is sort of helping to alleviate some of the short-term concerns when it comes to forest fire activity. The unfortunate thing is we have this long-standing moisture deficit through much of the fire centre at this point. Associated with that, we need a lot more moisture than just getting this 20 millimetres kind of ideas over the next five to six days.”

“We have had a couple of days earlier on where we reported 10 millimetres and we have seen 20-25 over the area in general in May.”

During this time, temperatures are predicted to bounce between 12 and 17 degrees.
