There’s now more than 400 wildfires burning in our province, an increase of more than 30 per cent since the start of the week.
BC Wildfire Service officials say high winds and what they call “exceptional lightning strikes” on Monday were the main causes, especially in the Northeast.
More than 250 of the fires burning are considered out of control.
In the meantime, more than 100 people passed through Prince George’s Emergency Support Service after being evacuated from Jasper Monday night.
The City of Prince George says it’s not authorized to provide lodging or food services to Jasper evacuees, who have been advised to make their way to reception centres in Grande Prairie or Calgary.
Parks Canada say more than 25,000 people, including town residents, seasonal workers and visitors were affected by the order.
The RCMP are now going door-to-door to ensure everyone left.
The City of Williams Lake has lifted the evacuation alert caused by the River Valley Wildfire.
The lake the City is named after has also been reopened for public and recreational use.
Near Barkerville and Wells, the Antler Creek wildfire remains about three kilometres away from those communities.
Nearly 1,000 people were evacuated on Sunday.
Additionally, the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako has issued an evacuation alert surrounding the Pitka Creek wildfire.
That wildfire is about 18 kilometres southwest of Fort St. James, and is being held at 147 hectares.
