Jared Young is off to a sizzling start with the Doosan Bears.
The 29-year-old from Prince George, who signed with the Seoul-based club over the weekend, went 5-for-6, drilling two home runs and tallying eight RBIs in a 30-6 thrashing over the first-place Kia Tigers on Wednesday.
The 30-run outing by the Bears also set a new Korean Baseball Organization record.
Doosan swept the three-game series against Kia – recording a 12-7 victory on Tuesday along with a 1-0 triumph today.
The Bears sit fifth in the KBO standing with a 53-50-2 record.
Young signed a $300,000 contract with Doosan after requesting his release from the Memphis Red Birds, the AAA affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Prior to heading overseas, the 29-year-old had 11 home runs and 35 RBI’s while batting .285 with the Red Birds in 74 games this season.
St. Louis claimed the PG product on waivers back on November 6th and sent him down to the minors at the end of March, prior to the start of the MLB season.
Between 2022 and 2023, Young had suited up for the Chicago Cubs in 22 MLB games, batting .210 and scoring two homeruns in his career.
He is the first and only Prince George baseball player to crack an MLB roster.
Chicago selected Young in the 15th round of the 2017 Draft out of Old Dominion University.
