BC NDP pledges helipad for UHNBC expansion

The BC NDP is committing to adding a helipad to the business plan for the expansion at UHNBC, as part of their election campaign.

They say this will help ensure patients arriving by helicopter in emergency situations can get the care they need faster.

“People in Northern BC often have to travel to Prince George, the regional hub, for complex maternity and emergency care, including trauma and cancer care,” said NDP Leader David Eby.

“Travelling in a health emergency is already scary enough, we want to make it as fast and smooth as possible for patients as well as paramedics.”

The BC NDP government previously announced the expansion, which includes an 11-floor hospital tower, should be opening in 2031.

At that time they said the tower will add 109 new beds to UHNBC.

Voters head to the polls on October 19th.
