Cougars blow past the Hurricanes

Jesse Gabrielle and Brad Morrison both notched a goal and two assists to lead the Prince George Cougars to a 4-3 victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes before 2,352 fans at CN Centre.

Gabrielle leads the team in goals with 11, and points with 15 after just 14 games.

Chase Witala tallied the winner and import defenceman Luka Zorko scored his first WHL goal for the Cougars, who never trailed and outshot the Hurricanes 40-28.

The game marked the 400th for PG’s Mark Holik as a WHL coach.

The 8-6 Cougars, who are two games above .500 for the first time this season, play Friday in Everett and Saturday in Kamloops before returning home for a doubleheader against Edmonton Nov. 13 and 14.

–Forward Tyler Mrkonjic has left the Prince George Cougars after informing the team he’s lost his desire to play.

The 19-year-old Mrkonjic had one goal in 10 games in his third season with the team.

Mrkonjic posted 34 points (including 13 goals) plus 71 penalty minutes in 151 career games with the Cougars.
